The Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys saw the field that started with 64 surfers culled to just five for the 1-Star Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Qualifying Series (QS) and Asian Surfing Championship (ASC) event. The surf dropped slightly from yesterday but Keramas still managed to produce the goods as four heats of Round 3 and three of the four Quarterfinals were run and won in 3-foot right-handers.
Oney Anwar (IND) and Mikey Wright (AUS) put on an exciting show in their Quarterfinal matchup. Wright took an early lead with a solid and smooth air-reverse followed by some power hacks to score a 9.00. Anwar was left searching for something big and he found it when he took to the air and landed two inverted air-reverses on a long, well-groomed wall. The score came in at a 9.50 and Anwar would go on to the Semifinals.

“It's been a while since I've been in the Semifinals so I'm really stoked,†Anwar said. “There's still a lot of work to do because I really want to win. I've had some bad results lately, so I've been training and working really hard and it seems to be paying off. This is only a 1-Star but there's so many good surfers, this is great for my confidence.â€
Dean Morrison (AUS) unbelievably almost slept through his Round 3 bout and Quarterfinal today. Both heats saw the former Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) surfer paddle out five minutes late, and yet still manage to take the win. Morrison looked right at home on the reeling rights of Keramas that have been compared to Snapper all week long.

“I can't believe I did that twice in one day!†Morrison said. “It's been a big couple of days and it's all catching up with me but it's so much fun out there. Stoked to win a couple more heats and be into the Semifinals. I'll try to be on time for that one.â€
Dede Suryana (IND) is one of Indonesia's favorite surfing sons and the waves at Keramas showcase his skills perfectly. Today he linked tubes, carves and airs seamlessly and eliminated fellow countryman Made Rondi (IND) to lock down a spot in the Semifinals.

“My wife had a baby girl last night and I really wanted to go home but she told me to stay and do the event,†Suryana said. “I had no pressure on me today because if I lost then I get to go home. I'm really happy that this event is here, Keramas is my favorite wave in Bali and it's great that it's a QS. I just want to thank my wife so much for her support. Tomorrow is my birthday so maybe I can win the contest and go home to see my new baby, that would be the best birthday ever.â€
A call will be made at 8 a.m. local time tomorrow for a possible 8:30am start.
